Gladiator Scene 3 Summary

  • The scene shifts, and we're watching the movement of a wagon of some sort. It's almost like we're watching it from a ditch below the road.
  • Soon, we're inside the wagon. A young, handsome man who is clearly somebody important asks a question to an equally important woman who's lying down: "Do you think he's really dying?"
  • The woman says he's (we don't know who "he" is just yet) been dying for ten years.
  • This woman, we soon figure out, is Lucilla, and the man is Commodus. They're Marcus Aurelius' children.
  • Commodus is convinced his father will name him emperor, after which he plans to honor him (Aurelius) with "games."
  • The wagon stops, and Commodus disembarks. The music turns sinister, and the film slows to focus on him briefly.
  • Commodus learns that the emperor's at the front. He calls for his horse, and departs, but not before asking for a kiss from his sister.
  • He seems to want a different kind of kiss than the one she blows to him. Ew. Ew, ew, ew.
  • He rides off at an aggressive pace.
