Good Country People Genre

Southern Gothic

"Good Country People" doesn't quite rise to the level of a horror story, but there are many gothic elements. Gothic tales really bring the creep factor, sometimes featuring characters imprisoned in small, enclosed, remote spaces—you know, like the barn loft where the climax of the story takes place. Throw a missing leg into the mix along with a stolen glass eye, and we're definitely in the gothic zone, though, to be precise, we're really in the Southern gothic zone since the book is set in the South.
