Phil Connors

It might seem strange to say it, but Phil Connors is both the protagonist and antagonist in this movie. He is on the one hand the person we want to succeed. But he is also his own worst enemy.

He's by far the meanest person in the movie (at least in the beginning) and he makes life pretty miserable for everyone including himself. What we're basically hoping for is that the good side of Phil will eventually overcome the bad side. And that's exactly what happens in the end.
