Character Role Analysis

Peter Van Daan

We don't know if we'd call him the king of romance, but Peter does end up being Anne's first boyfriend—emphasis on the friend. Desperate for some company, both teens are able to grow to love one another as people first, then as possible love interests. There's a good chance that, had their stay in isolation not been interrupted, the couple would have pursued their friendship to a higher level, but alas, that didn't happen. Still, Anne and Peter have a really beautiful thing going on in the play and we're sort of satisfied that things don't get too lovey-dovey with them.
