Dudley is the Dursleys' ridiculously spoiled son. Every day of their lives, they encourage him to think he's perfect. Dudley has grown to believe that bullying his cousin, Harry, is OK, too. He's a major nuisance in Harry's life at Number 4 Privet Drive, but he doesn't have much of a role in Harry's Hogwarts experiences (which is, after all, what we care about). In an interview, when a fan asked if there is more to Dudley than meets the eye, J.K. Rowling replied, "No. [Laughter]. What you see is what you get. I am happy to say that he is definitely a character without much back story. He is just Dudley" (source).
