- Harry receives his first broom, a Nimbus 2000, from a mysterious benefactor (okay, it's McGonagall) and then gets thrown into his first experience with the sport of wizards, Quidditch.
- After a particularly heated game, and a bit of strangeness involving Snape apparently attempting to sabotage Harry's broom (which Hermione puts a stop to with a little firebug magic), Harry eventually wins by nearly swallowing the golden snitch (a tiny flying ball which he's tasked with catching).
