York Timeline and Summary

  • 1.1: Henry welcomes Margaret, his new queen, to the court. York's a little surprised that Henry gave up lands in France for her (which is a big no-no for a king). Henry doesn't care, so he leaves. There's fighting, and eventually York is left alone on stage. He confides in us that he believes he should be king, and he plans to take the crown from Henry later on.
  • 1.3: The nobles are fighting again, this time over who should be regent in France. Henry doesn't really care, but Gloucester suggests York because he's most suited to the job. York doesn't think so: he thinks he'll lose more land in France since Somerset hasn't given him money or equipment to fight properly. Then Gloucester changes his mind and suggests Somerset; Henry picks Somerset instead of York.
  • 1.4: York and Buckingham show up at Eleanor's pad to arrest her for dabbling in witchcraft. They get there while the witch and conjurer are still hanging out, so they have evidence against Eleanor.
  • 2.2: York, Salisbury, and Warwick are on an after-dinner stroll in the garden. York tells them about his claim to the throne, and they decide to support him. It's game on… soon.
  • 2.3: After Henry sentences Eleanor and friends for their witchcraft, York remembers that today's the day of the fight. Peter and Horner are going head to head. Poor Peter: he's so unprepared.
  • 3.1: When news arrives from Ireland that there's been an uprising, the nobles decide to send York to be regent there and take care of it. Perfect: York requests an army to take care of that (and maybe he can use it in the future?) and lets us in on his plan: he's hired Jack Cade to cause trouble in London and lay the groundwork for him.
  • 5.1: York is questioned by Buckingham about what he's doing with his army. York claims he's going to confront Somerset, but eventually the truth comes out that he's planning to depose Henry. York thinks he should be king. Henry can't believe what he's hearing, but he knows he won't give up his crown without a fight from York and his men.
  • 5.2: On the battlefield, York kills Clifford, and then Richard kills Somerset. York is gaining steam, and Henry runs away to London.
  • 5.3: York and his posse declare victory. They've defeated Henry's men; now they just have to defeat Henry himself, and the crown will be York's. All they have to do is beat him to London and launch a surprise attack.
