Character Analysis
Mr. Grey's men are following the Farmer family when they leave town for the weekend. Because of what happens shortly after they're spotted (the car crash) we can't be sure if they're good or bad. (Though it sure seems like they're responsible for the crash.) All we know about them is what Adam's dad says: "I'd know them anywhere" (30.29). These words are worth remembering, because they tell us that in this book, government workers are all the same – and probably, it turns out, all corrupt. That's quite a statement, and it hits hard.
