Jon Krakauer Timeline & Summary

Jon Krakauer is assigned to write a piece about Mount Everest for Outside magazine. He manages to convince his bosses to let him climb the mountain instead of merely staying at Base Camp.
Krakauer joins Rob Hall's commercial guiding group. During the trek to Everest Base Camp, he befriends Andy Harris, a guide, and Doug Hansen, a postal worker and fellow client.
Over the next several weeks, the group shuttles between several camps up the side of Everest to adjust their bodies to the altitude.
On May 10, the group finally makes an attempt at the summit.
Krakauer is one of the first people to reach the top of the mountain. He immediately heads back to the nearest camp, passing Andy Harris, who's acting irrationally, on his way down.
As Krakauer sleeps, a storm hits the mountain, killing or stranding over a dozen climbers.
He aids in the rescue efforts the following morning, and the surviving members of his group descend the mountain the next day.
Krakauer is deeply upset by the press spectacle that follows the disaster and sinks into a depression.
He also writes an article on the disaster, which is criticized by many relatives of those who died for its inaccuracies.
