Khepera (Khepri)

Khepera (Khepri)

This guy has a beetle for a head. And, you know, that's probably all we need to say about Khepera, but we wouldn't want to leave out any of the other funky details. Like the fact that he rolls the sun across the sky every day and never burns up or that his name is the ancient Egyptian verb for "becoming." Deep, right? Oh, but did we mention that he has a beetle for a head? Yeah, that's pretty cool.

And who's responsible for that, huh? This guy. Thank me later.

This story would explain why I never travel after dark. It's scary out there!
The Epic of Gilgamesh by Sinleqqiunninni
Now this is some old-school storytelling. I wish I could find that tavern, though. Haven't seen it on any of my rolls yet.
Oh, the Places You'll Go! by Dr. Seuss
They might not be as far as the places I get to take Ra in his boat, but they'll be grand.
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville (and the rest of the Bas-Lag series)
The Khepri people in these books are artistic (I can agree with this)… but forbidden to mix with others? How sad.
Ancient Egyptian Book of the Dead (Gift Edition with Scarab) translated by Raymond O. Faulkner
Not only do you get to read about the spells we put on heart scarabs, but the book has a heart scarab inside that you can keep. How cool is that?
The Complete Guide to Rearing the Rainbow Scarab and Other Dung Beetles by Steven Barney and Orin McMonigle
If you're not creeped out by bugs, you might enjoy this. I love these guys.

Rolling!
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
Well, not quite sunshine, but close enough?
I like dance music. Lately, I've been rolling to the Harlem Shake, but I think it might be making Ra a little bit motion sick.
MoviesThe Mummy (1999)
Scarabs don't eat people! But the film was fun.
The Life of Pi
There aren't any tigers on Ra's boat, but Set has a mean roar.
I like the Ice Age films. That poor squirrel.
Kon-Tiki
Best. Boat trip. Ever. And it really happened, too.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
What about boats? There should be boats.
Ra doesn't let me watch Titanic anymore. He says it makes too much rain when I cry.
The Dark Crystal
I think the Garthim (the big angry bug guards at the evil guys' palace) look kind of like me. But I'm a good guy!
TV ShowsAll that downtime at night gives Ra and Atum and I plenty of time to catch up on Doctor Who.
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Pilots are cool.
Red Dwarf
Wandering around space doesn't have to be depressing.
Not everything I watch is science fiction. The Sherlock Holmes remake Elementary isn't bad at all.
