It's November now. Margaret gets to go to church with Janie. She still doesn't have a revelation, but she does get a little embarrassed when Janie introduces her to the minister as "my friend Margaret Simon. She's no religion" (10.7). Gee thanks, Janie.
Afterward, Margaret talks with God again, trying to figure out why she didn't feel anything in church either.
As Thanksgiving rolls around, the sixth graders get ready for a square dance.
Before the big dance, Margaret has another little chat with God, this time asking for a little help getting to dance with Philip Leroy.
The dance goes about as well as a sixth grade square dance can, and Margaret learns to be careful what you wish for when she finds out that handsome Philip Leroy is one of the dreaded foot steppers. Ouch.
