Chapter 118

The Iron Maiden and the Oubliette

  • John can't shake the fact that the whole world has ended. He hears tornadoes wreaking havoc outside, and the radio picks up nothing but static.
  • In fact, there are no broadcasts even when John is writing this story in the future.
  • He assumes everyone on the surface is doomed.
  • He turns to The Book of Bokonon for comfort but finds the contents are trash. Of course, Bokonon's own book agrees with this assessment.
  • Instead, he tries to find comfort in Mona. The two have sex, but Mona doesn't get into it.
  • She tells John that she thinks this would be an awful time to have a baby. When John agrees with her, she informs him that sex is how babies are made. Just in case he wasn't in the know.
