  • McCabe and Bokonon thought to make the island a paradise. McCabe reworked economy and laws while Bokonon invented a new religion.
  • At this point, Newt tugs at John's coat sleeve and invites him to the bar.
  • They drink their share, and Newt tells John about his affair with Zinka.
  • As he puts it, "She broke my heart. I didn't like that much. But that was the price. In this world, you get what you pay for." (58.13).
