Chapter 48

Crash's mom finds Scooter's walker at the foot of the stairs.
She and Crash run upstairs and find him staring at his portrait, which hangs in the hallway. Crash's mom mentions he wasn't home much when she was a kid and that she painted that portrait from memory when he was on one of his trips.
As for Scooter making it up the stairs, it turns out that two nights earlier, Crash put some of the Missouri River mud on Scooter's foot. He thinks that's why Scooter is walking so much better.
