A new gold mine has been discovered in a central province of South Africa. Everyone is so excited about all the money they are going to make that no one cares about Arthur Jarvis or his murderer anymore. Yay?
Some reformers say that some of this gold money should go to social centers and hospitals or more pay for the miners, but according to our narrator, these people just don't understand how money works.
After all, with more money for rich people, there will be more work for the miners—isn't that a good thing?
But lots of reformers say no, this is terrible—the gap between rich and poor is getting worse and worse.
