Dumbledore begins by telling us how humbled and honored he is to be writing this foreword for Fantastic Beasts.
For years, Hogwarts students have used Mr. Scamander's book to score top marks on their Care of Magical Creatures exams. A++++
And no wizarding household would be complete without a copy either. How else would you know how to get rid of those pesky lawn Horklumps?
But, this edition is pretty special because this is the first time Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be made available to Muggles, too. (Hey, that's us.)
Why do something like that? Well to raise money for Comic Relief U.K. of course. Dumbledore goes on to explain all the ways Comic Relief U.K. works to make the world a better (and more magical) place. And by buying this book, you're donating money directing to Comic Relief U.K. You do-gooder, you.
This edition is also pretty unique because it's a reproduction of Harry Potter's actual copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. That means it has all kinds of helpful doodles in the margins. (We'll be sure to point them out when they can, but you should definitely take a look at the real book to get the full effect.)
In closing, Dumbledore would just like to address the Muggles out there reading about these magical creatures for the first time. Don't worry—these fantastic beasts are totally fake and definitely cannot hurt you. Definitely.
To wizards, he only has this to say: Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus. Shmoop translation note: This is actually the Hogwarts motto and it means, "Never tickle a sleeping dragon."
