Harrison Bergeron Tough-o-Meter

By Kurt Vonnegut

(2) Sea Level

"Harrison Bergeron" is deceptively easy to read. Pretty much the largest, most complicated phrase you'll have to read is the title of the story. So if you've got that down, you're golden. If they have stories in the society of 2081 where "Harrison Bergeron" is set, they would probably read like this one: clean and simple. After all, in a society where intelligent people are dumbed down to the level of everyone else, stories have to be easy to read. But "Harrison Bergeron" is anything but dumbed down. While it might look like a shallow pool on the surface, its themes are plenty deep.
