Of Bridin's two older brothers, Bran is most responsible for partnering with her to prepare her for her eventual role as taoiseach. In her fever dream during the first day of her captivity at Douglas's, for example, Bridin remembers him advising her to "be more aware of your surroundings" (6.9) and teaching her a lesson for using the same fighting maneuver too often by beating her in a fight. It's obvious that he's motivated by his desire to protect his sister, even though she will someday outrank him as pack leader.
