Island of the Blue Dolphins Narrator Point of View

By Scott O'Dell

Narrator Point of View

First Person (Central)

We get all the details of this story straight from the horse's mouth – that is, this is a first-person story told to us by the main character herself: Karana. The first-person narration shows us exactly what Karana is thinking and feeling, her hopes and her fears. This means that we really feel for her when she loses her brother, and we're on the edge of our seats when she's fighting that nasty devilfish. All in all, we're close to this narrator because we hear her story in her own words.
