John Breck Maccoll
John Breck is a tenant of Appin who helps Alan get a message to James Stewart asking for money in chapter twenty-one. He's a wild-looking man who speaks little English. He does get Alan's message to the Stewart family and brings back the bad news that James has been arrested. Mrs. Stewart sends cash, as well as a few wanted posters so that Alan and Davie know what the English soldiers are looking for.
