  • Maniac stays the night, but sneaks out early in the morning, knowing he can't stay there.
  • Eventually, Russell and Piper find him, thrilled that he's has survived the gauntlet of the East End.
  • Things are even worse in the McNab house than when he left though: they're actually building the fortress to protect themselves from the East Enders: "Now there was something else in that house, and it smelled worse than garbage and turds" (39.37).
