Lou is at a Paris café, eating croissants and drinking coffee. She's doing this, according to her, because she's "following instructions" (e.1).
Lou looks at a letter that refers to said instructions. It's from Will.
The letter explains that Will is leaving Lou a small amount of money so she can go through with her education. He also tells her that she should live life with a new sense of zeal, though he knows that it will be hard at first.
The waiter offers Lou another coffee, but she declines. She pays her bill, walks away, and gets ready to explore the world in a way she never thought possible a year ago.
