The Nurse in Moll Flanders

Advertisement - Guide continues below

The Nurse

Moll moves in with this woman as a small child and stays with the nurse through her early adolescence. The woman is kind and neat, and easily moved by the young Moll's passionate wish to stay in her home. While living with the nurse, Moll leads a fairly simple, moral life. The nurse helps Moll make some important connections to the upper classes before passing away, which brings Moll to the brothers' household. Perhaps as a sign of her affection for the nurse, Moll refers to her as a "mother" several times.
