Chapter 17

JIMMI

  • At the Vet hospital, fifteen days before the hanging, Jimmi wonders what the world will be like without Joe—he just can't imagine it.
  • Jimmi's not on drugs anymore, but he wishes he were since he feels so lost and empty.
  • He looks up and sees Fatima and Mik waving to him. They offer him a hot shower and some food, but he knows Mik's mom won't approve.
  • Don't worry, Mik says, she's at work.
  • He realizes he's never heard Mik talk so much, and tells her she's got a nice voice.
  • He asks them what they're working on, and they say "nothing."
  • Then Jimmi skates away from them, out of the sunlight.
