Since all the steamships are booked, Lady Allenby, the wife of the Lieutenant-General, graciously offers Mrs. Moore passage in her own cabin on a ship back to England.
Mrs. Moore takes the train through central India to Bombay. She's impressed with what she sees, particularly Asirgarh.

In Bombay, she meets Lady Allenby, who warns her against standing in the heat.
