Lord Mayor of London in Richard III

By William Shakespeare

Lord Mayor of London

Either this guy is the most gullible person in the universe or he's just afraid of crossing Richard. Either way, when Richard tells him that Hastings had to be killed because he confessed to being a traitor, the lord mayor says he totally believes him. He even goes so far as to assure the citizens of London that Richard and Buckingham were "just" when they took out Hastings. But even the scrivener who's assigned to copy the official indictment against Hastings knows that only a chump would fail to see that Hastings' death is fishy. (See "Characters: The Scrivener" for more.)
