Despite Teresa trying to wake him up telepathically, Thomas can't wake up. He thinks he hears chaos in the room he's sleeping in, but nah. He's just dreaming.
Uh, no. There's definitely chaos in your room right now, Thomas, old buddy.
Finally, Thomas shakes himself awake, and whoa,wouldn't you know it, all of the boys are running around like crazed animals.
Three feet from Thomas's bed is a window, and behind that window is a dude with bloody hands and a messed up face. You know, like a zombie.
The man yells, "I'm a Crank... I'm a bloody Crank!" (2.16).
Then the man yells, "Kill me! Kill me! Kill me!" (2.17).
Ah, so everything's a-okay.
