Chapter 39

Minho helps Brenda and Thomas out of their chairs and tells them how they've survived thanks to Jorge's help. The boys planned an ambush on the Cranks once they saw them pull a gun out on Thomas.
Thomas then gets a sinking feeling: he totally hurt Brenda's feelings.
Oh, yeah—she looks awful at this point. She won't even look at him.
All eleven Gladers are there. Hooray.
The kids resolve to leave the city ASAP. They start to move out.
Brenda gives Thomas the cold shoulder while they're walking. She says she doesn't care about him and his stupid girlfriend.
Oof.
With about a mile to go, Thomas hears something behind him. Oh, brother.
Apparently, when Minho and the Gladers ambushed the Cranks, Blondie escaped. And here he is, pointing a gun straight at Thomas.
The chapter ends with Thomas getting shot in the left shoulder.
