Wendy does like the book that Alan recommended for her, and she feels a kinship with the main character, Frankie, because they're the same age and also starting to see the world differently.
She goes to the bookstore and talks to Alan about how she plays the clarinet; she wishes she had one here with her. She also helps Alan shelve some books.
When customers come, she overhears them talking to Alan about Tim, his son. They sympathize with how hard it is for him to have an autistic son.
