The Walking Dead Fear

By Robert Kirkman

Zombies are scary. We don't really need to say more, but we will. There are myriad things to be afraid of in the zombie-filled world. (For example, grammar. Is it "myriad things" or "a myriad of things"?) You don't want to be bitten by a zombie. You don't want your friends and relatives to be bitten by zombies. You don't want to run out of food. Or ammo. Or toilet paper. And fear does weird things to people. It makes them suspicious, jumpy, and nasty. In a zombie-infested world, you have to live your entire life in fear, 24/7. Kind of like working for Anna Wintour.

Questions About Fear

  1. If you were in The Walking Dead what would scare you the most?
  2. What are the main fears of all our main characters?
  3. Do the characters face their fears or run from them?
  4. What conveys fear in the book more effectively: words or images?

Chew on This

Sometimes in a world populated with zombies, there are other things to fear… no, nevermind. The fear of zombies trumps everything else.

Almost every action the characters take in The Walking Dead is motivated by fear.
