Freeze-Frame

• Sym recalls the day Titus arrived in her head. It was when she watched an old TV show about him.
• Her dad was in the hospital at the time. Sym found herself totally absorbed by this program—so much so that it felt more real than her real life.
• It was during this immersive experience that Sym "met" Titus. She had read about him before, but now that she was seeing him on DVD, he came to life, so to speak.
• Soon after she finished watching the program, Sym's mum called to say her dad had died.
• Sym wasn't exactly surprised; his death had been on the horizon for a while. Also, she says her father never liked her.
