Conjurer in The White Devil

By John Webster

The Conjurer uses magic—real magic!—to help Brachiano witness the murder of his wife and of Camillo. Although the Conjurer is helping Brachiano out, it seems like he's also a little skeptical about this bloody-minded Duke. As the scene ends, he says:

"Both flowers and weeds spring, when the sun is warm, / And great men do great good, or else great harm." (2.2)
