Jack meets Murray in the supermarket again and finds out that one of their colleagues at the university has died in a surfing accident.
When driving Babette to one of her classes, Jack notices
that the sunset is even more beautiful than usual. This has been happening
since the airborne toxic event, and people are wondering if the spectacular
sunsets are somehow being caused by the toxins in the air.
Babette tells Jack that the Congregational church has asked
her to teach a new class in eating and drinking. You know, how to properly
swallow and stuff. Yes, it sounds dumb. But people love to have others reassure
them about the stuff they already know. Ever Googled the phrase "How to
brush your teeth," just to reassure yourself that you're doing it right?
