The Child Rebels
When Whit and Wisty escape prison, they join up with hundreds of children who are living in the shell of what used to be a fancy department store. These kids live in Freeland, which is not under the New Order's control, and they appoint a new leader each week so the office isn't corrupted. When Whit and Wisty arrive, that leader is Janine. Some of the other rebels we encounter are Michael Clancy, a disturbed refugee; Margo, who leads military missions; Jonathan, who turns out to be a traitor; and Jamilla, a shaman who helps other people develop their magical powers.
