Mr. George Banks (David Tomlinson)’s Timeline and Summary

George decides to hire a new nanny for Jane and Michael, after their old one quits. (She says the children ran away, although they were really just chasing an escaped kite.)
George wants to hire a strict nanny and takes out an ad in the paper calling for a disciplinarian—tearing up the ad for a kind nanny, which the children wrote.
But, the next day, a strong wind blows those nannies away, and Mary Poppins flies in. She hires herself, when George is flabbergasted by her appearance.
After Mary brightens up the house and takes the children on adventures, making everyone happier, George gets jealous and wants to fire her.
Mary kisses up to him, suggesting he takes his kids to the bank to teach them about thrift and discipline.
But this turns into a disaster: Michael accidentally provokes bank customers to try to withdraw all their money from the bank.
George faces the consequences, and his boss—Dawes Sr.—fires him.
Surprisingly, George is thrilled by this. He perks up and decides to be a better dad, taking his whole family out to fly a kite.
Dawes Sr. dies, but tells his son to hire George as a full partner in the bank first.
So George gets his job back too—along with a promotion.
