  • Kattrin is traveling around Sweden with her mother and brothers.
  • We learn that she can't speak when Mother Courage introduces her to the sergeant and recruiter in the first scene.
  • Kattrin tries to warn her mother that Eilif is being recruited behind her back. She is ignored.
  • When her mother heads off with the chaplain and the cook to talk politics, Kattrin tries on Yvette's hat and red boots. She gets in trouble when her mother returns and sees what she's up to.
  • Later, Mother Courage also finds the boots, which Kattrin tried to steal.
  • After Swiss Cheese's execution, Kattrin is there to see his body when the soldiers bring it around for identification.
  • Later, when the chaplain demands linen for wounded peasants, Kattrin becomes excited and tries to get her mother to hand over the officer's shirts.
  • Kattrin goes into the ruins of the peasant's house and rescues a baby. She's reluctant to give it back to its mother.
  • When Kattrin hears the chaplain say the war will likely go on forever, she is very upset.
  • When her mother sends her off to stock up on new goods, Kattrin returns having been attacked by soldiers. She has a wound above her eye. She's still carrying a few wares she bought in town, among them a drum.
  • Kattrin gets Yvette's boots as a present. She doesn't touch them.
  • When peace is announced, Kattrin refuses to appear to greet the cook, who has just returned. Her mother tells the cook she's embarrassed about the scar above her eye.
  • Later, the cook peers into the wagon to say hello. He sees Kattrin with her head under a blanket.
  • When the cook tells Courage about the inn he's inherited, Courage also tells Kattrin.
  • Kattrin then overhears the cook telling Courage that she'll have to leave Kattrin behind.
  • Kattrin puts together a bundle of things, and emerges from the wagon. She takes one of her mother's skirts and an old pair of pants belonging to the cook, and lays them out, side by side. As she starts to head off with the bundle, her mother sees and stops her.
  • She continues pulling the wagon with her mother, once the cook is gone.
  • Kattrin observes Catholic soldiers forcing a peasant boy to be their guide through the forest.
  • She learns that the Catholics are planning a secret attack on the local town where he mother is.
  • She groans when she overhears the peasant wife talking about all her relatives in the town, including small children.
  • Kattrin takes the drum from the wagon, climbs on top of a stable, and starts to beat on it. Though soldiers threaten her with death and the destruction of her mother's wagon, she doesn't stop until they shoot her. By then, she has successfully alerted the town of the secret attack.
  • Kattrin dies in her mother's arms.
