Scene 7

Scene 7

  • Amos visits Billy Flynn's fancy office.
  • Flynn is impressed that Amos is standing by Roxie after she tried to pin the whole crime on him.
  • He's unimpressed with the fact that Amos only has $2,000.
  • He kicks Amos out of the office…
  • But then he reconsiders, because Amos' devotion to his wife is so touching.
  • Billy says he'll get Roxie in all the papers, and they'll have an auction to raise money for her defense.
  • He then visits Roxie, telling her the goal is drum up sympathy in the court of public opinion.
  • He concocts a story about poor Roxie, wanting to a nun, swept up in the sin of the city.
  • Roxie practices her fake story, and a fake Southern accent, with Billy and Mama.
  • She brushes peroxide into her hair and gives herself a jazzy new haircut.
  • Meanwhile, Velma is working on her defense, too… but Billy is distracted by Roxie's razzle-dazzle.
  • That night, Velma goes to Roxie in her cell, and tries to sew distrust in Billy Flynn.
  • She advises Roxie to not let him hog the spotlight.
