Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Genre

Drama and Action/Adventure

The previous films were pretty heavy on action and adventure stuff, but this one probably tilts a little more toward the dramatic. Things are getting real, guys.

Sure, we still get some Quidditch playing, Harry and Dumbledore go on adventures, and Malfoy and Harry fight...but really, that's really nothing compared to the destructive duels in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the dangerous Triwizard Tournament tasks in Goblet of Fire, or Harry fighting a basilisk in Chamber of Secrets.

But fear not, Shmoopers: there's still plenty to keep your heart pounding. Malfoy has some mysterious mission that seems to involve hurting Dumbledore, and Dumbledore and Harry are knee-deep in acquiring intel to defeat Voldemort.

Oh, and Ron almost dies.

Oh, and so does Katie Bell.

Oh, and then Dumbledore actually does die.

That's seriously drama-tic stuff, and it more than makes up for the lack of dragons and broomsticks, in our opinion. Even though we sometimes pine for the good old days of Sorting Hats and life-sized chess. Life was so much simpler then.
