Lost in Translation earns its R rating primarily because it's a movie for grown-ups about complicated grown-up feelings like loneliness, alienation, and disenchantment. There's some brief nudity, too, though—starting with a John Kacere-style shot of Charlotte's butt in sheer briefs and ending with topless dancers in a Tokyo strip club that Bob and Charlotte can't leave fast enough.
