One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest Scene 14

Scene 14

• McMurphy, Chief, and Cheswick are taken to another ward in the hospital. A nurse comes by and gives pills to each of them. Then she asks Mr. Cheswick to follow her. Cheswick screams as some orderlies lead him away.
• McMurphy is left alone with Chief, and he offers the guy a stick of Juicy Fruit. He thinks he hears Chief say, "Thank You," so he offers another stick.
• The second time, Chief clearly reads out the name "Juicy Fruit."
• At this moment, McMurphy realizes that Chief has been faking his deafness the entire time. He just does it to be invisible to people.
• McMurphy is insanely happy to find out that Chief has fooled everyone so badly.
• He tells Chief that the two of them need to escape. Chief thinks Canada as the place to go.
• Some orderlies come out with a stretcher and wheel an unconscious Cheswick past them. We don't know what's happened to Cheswick, but it doesn't look good.
• The nurse from earlier comes out and asks McMurphy to follow her.
• A team lays McMurphy on a white table and gives him electroshock therapy.
