Buttercup (Robin Wright)’s Timeline and Summary

Buttercup (Robin Wright)’s Timeline and Summary

  • Buttercup likes a guy with a signature line. In this case, "As you wish" does the trick, and she finds herself madly attracted to the help.
  • Westley, "the help," is attracted to her right back, and the two pledge their undying love to one another, until he goes and dies (reportedly).
  • In Westley's absence, Prince Humperdinck decides to take Buttercup as his bride, which is totally allowed under Florish (Florinese?) law. Buttercup isn't thrilled with the idea, but there isn't much she can do about it.
  • Shortly before their wedding date, she's kidnapped by a trio of villains hired by the Prince to kill her.
  • The Prince is apparently eager to change his Facebook status from "Engaged" to "Single."
  • Buttercup is rescued by a mysterious Man in Black, who turns out to be her beloved Westley.
  • She races through the Fire Swamp with him, only to be captured by the Prince on the other side. She begs Humperdinck to spare Westley's life, and naively believes him when he crosses his heart and hopes to die.
  • As the wedding approaches, Buttercup makes a deal with Humperdinck—he will send his four fastest ships to track down Westley and request that he return. If he does, he and Buttercup can be wed; otherwise, he asks that she consider marrying him "as an alternative to suicide." Would be a fair deal if Westley had ever actually been released.
  • The wedding comes and goes and, although she never says, "I do," Buttercup is distraught that Westley failed to rescue her in time. However, she bumps into him in the bridal suite and all is forgiven.
  • Once Westley's done taking care of Humperdinck, he and Buttercup leap from the window (fortunately, there's a giant there to catch them), and presumably live happily ever after.
