Character Role Analysis

Marion Ravenwood

Despite the romantic tension between Indy and Marion, foildom wins out in the end, as Marion delivers a drink and a "buck up little camper" smile rather than a happily-ever-after embrace. Having more or less reconciled with Indy, she's happy to give him a hard time and remind him of all the crappy things he did instead of locking lips and cuing the sappy music. Final proof comes at the very end, when they walk off with interlinked arms rather than kissing or something more physical. That puts her firmly in foil territory despite her romantic proclivities. It's just one more example of the way this movie plays with our expectations.
