Character Role Analysis

Luke

Luke is the character we root for during the film, so the title of protagonist fits him. We understand his desire to see the universe, hope he accomplishes his goals, and empathize with his loss of Aunt Beru, Uncle Owen and later Obi-Wan. We want to see him defeat the Empire and rescue the rebels, and we are elated when he does just that. Given this mountain of evidence, it seems obvious that Luke is the protagonist
