Ever wonder why hippos are such popular stuffed animals? It's not just because of their weird mouths and funny teeth or because they were in a few cartoons. Nope, it's because back in the day, they were known as protective animals. In ancient Egypt, people painted a magic hippo all over the inside of their houses to protect against scorpions, snakes, accidents, and nightmares. This magic hippo, who's only hungry (hungry) for evil, is named Taweret. Taweret serves as a "back off!" sign for anyone and anything that might hurt the family. Pretty cuddly, right?
