The Cook Timeline and Summary

The cook bails out the water continually collecting at the bottom of the boat.
He tells the others there is a "house of refuge just north of the Mosquito Inlet Light," and the crew there will save them (1.12).
Some hours later, he wonders why they haven't been saved yet.
The cook asks the oiler what his favorite kind of pie is.
The cook ties a life-preserver around his waist.
The captain asks the cook to take over at the oars—holding one oar steady to keep the boat facing the right way—so that the oarsmen can get some rest.
He steers the boat for a while, until they drift too close to shore, then guiltily, reluctantly, wakes them.
When they make their way to shore and the boat is tossed, the cook floats using his life-preserver, and grabs one of the oars to row himself to shore.
