Edward Tudor Timeline and Summary

  • Edward is born to fanfare, parties, and all kinds of other good things.
  • One day, Tom Canty stumbles across the palace, and the two boys become friends.
  • Poverty sound like a bunch of fun, so the prince wants to swap places with Tom Canty. This just turns out to be a little more long-term than he expected.
  • Edward gets beat up by a bunch of hooligans, accosted by John Canty, and then beat up by a mob because he keeps claiming to be the prince.
  • Finally, Edward is saved by Miles Hendon, who takes him home and plays along with what he thinks is the kid's little "game."
  • While Miles is out, Edward is tricked into leaving the apartment and is abducted by John Canty and his band of thieves.
  • Eventually, Edward runs away and finds a nice farm to hide in.
  • When John Canty shows up again, Edward runs into the woods. Unfortunately, Edward ends up stuck with a homicidal hermit who believes that he's an archangel.
  • Edward is saved from the hermit by, of all people, John Canty and friends, which is the weirdest turnaround in the whole novel.
  • When the thieves set Edward up and try to get him in trouble for robbery, Miles is the one who finds him and keeps him from going to jail.
  • Miles decides that the best course of action is to go to Henden Hall, but the reception there is a bit chillier than expected.
  • Miles is denied by everyone at his home and thrown into jail before being forced to spend three hours locked in the stocks.
  • When that's done, Miles and Edward head off to London, where Edward tries to barge in on the coronation ceremony.
  • After a lot of trial and error, Edward is finally recognized as the true king, and he makes Miles a knight.
  • Like any good king, he rights a bunch of wrongs and goes down in history for being awesome despite his short reign.
