  • The Velveteen Rabbit arrives on Christmas morning in the Boy's stocking—how jolly.
  • He winds up in the nursery toy box where he meets the Skin Horse who explains the deal with becoming Real. It sounds kind of hard.
  • Nana gives the Velveteen Rabbit to the Boy one night and they gradually become friends.
  • In the spring, the Boy and the Rabbit play outside in the yard and have all kinds of best friend adventures.
  • One night, the Boy declares that his little Rabbit friend is "Real" and the Rabbit's heart practically bursts with love and pride.
  • In summertime, the Rabbit meets a couple of wild rabbits near the woods by the Boy's house who insist he isn't Real because he can't dance or hop around. Weird.
  • Weeks later, the Boy gets sick with scarlet fever, but the Rabbit stays by his side until he gets better.
