The film Rocky premiered on this day in 1976. "Gonna Fly Now," the training sequence theme composed by Bill Conti, is one of the most recognizable pieces of movie music ever. During the montage, Rocky runs stairs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, does one-armed push-ups, and beats up some sides of beef in a meat locker. In fact, screenwriter and star Sylvester Stallone pummeled those cold cows so hard that he permanently flattened his knuckles.
