Is it A? Is she afraid of drowning?
The old lady does buy a caul, which superstition says prevents drowning, so we won't cross
this one off just yet. B gets a big no. The passage says nada about
her husband dying at sea. Moving on.
Could it be C? Does she think sailors have bad manners?
Nah, she doesn't like them, (and in reality, they probably do have bad manners) but she never says anything about their manners.
OK, how about D? Does the old lady disapprove of "meandering"?
Yeah, she says exactly that. In fact, there's a whole big chunk of text specifically about
how much she hates meandering.
So, we'll go ahead and cross off A, and give the go ahead to D.
