The evil test-makers are just hoping you'll spot something in the passage that matches
something in one of the bogus answers, fill in the bubble excitedly and move on.
That "except" word is a biggie. Okay, so... in that case, all we have to do
is look through the passage for each answer choice, and decide which is the odd one out
by process of elimination.
As it turns out, we could certainly cross off answers A, B, C and E...
...but if we noticed line 18, which that says that, "at five and forty it grew coal black"...
...we don't even have to bother hunting down the decoys.
Answer D suggests the mark turns blue at this age, and we know that's a bald-faced lie.
What -- do they think we've never hung out with a 45-year-old struldbrug before?
